I am scheduled to graduate next fall with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Political Science. I have a 3.8GPA with an LSAT score of 174.
Do colleges award scholarships to those wanting to attend their law school programs (my top three choices are Michigan, Harvard, and Yale)? If so what are my chances of receiving one and what should I do to go about applying for one?Do universities award scholarships for those wishing to attend law school and if so how do you apply for them?
Almost every school, with advanced degrees in law, offer scholarships and other awards specifically to students within that department. The best place for you to start would be to contact each of the schools that you are interested in attending. I would recommend emailing someone who is a member of the department, rather than someone in admissions. Chances are, they will have a greater knowledge of the awards available for their students. And, many individuals are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding funding and/or other requirements.
If you do find yourself still needing additional funds when the fall semester starts, you can also try applying for a Student Signature Loan through Sallie Mae. They have loans specifically designed for law students.
As far as the requirements for an award, these vary from school to school and from award to award. However, most will have the minimum requirements listed, either on their website or in print. If you meet the minimum requirements of a specific scholarship, spend a GREAT deal of time with your personal statement. This is usually what sways a committee member to vote for one candidate over another -- given relatively equal scores and GPAs.
Hope this helps and good luck with your applications!Do universities award scholarships for those wishing to attend law school and if so how do you apply for them?
there are large books of grants and scholarships, go to the library and start looking for ones that deal with law school , photo copy the pages that seem to fit, and send for applications to these scholarships, apply for as many as you possibly can.
